Joseph Cunningham, died January 31 1909 at the home of his father, T. A. Cunningham near Cartmell, Mo., aged 46 years and 20 days. Death came after many months of suffering with a malignant cancer. the funeral services were held at Macedonia, Tuesday morning, B. F. Mccombs officiating, after which he was laid to rest in the Macedonia cemetery. Joe was born in Fountain County, Indiana, Jan 11 1863. In 1887 he was married to Mary Brickey and to them were born seven children, six of whom together with the wife are yet living. Besides those names, he leaves a father, two brothers and three sisters to mourn their separation. The subject of this sketch was always an intensely practical man, believing in doing rather than good intentions. Always active, always doing something, giving liberally of his time, labor and sympathy in the homes of sickness and death. No poor neighbor stood in need of comforts which he was not ready to supply; no sick man or woman within his reach no matter how poor or unworthy, languished for the want of his assistance, and no beggar, tho a known imposter, went from his door unfed. His worst faults were to himself and those near him, and we have the hope and assurance that of those who stood by him in his last hours that these were forgiven by an All Merciful God. He lived according to the light as he saw it and we can trust a just God to remember. May we forget his frailties as we hope God forgave them and keep bright in the light of memory only his good deeds and so live that other may say on their faith have I been made to stumble.
